Langford Heathfield
A Somerset Wildlife Trust Nature Reserve, accessible on foot from Birch Lodge. There is a choice of two trails; both start and finish at the main access point to the reserve at the Jubilee Seat lay-by, a 3km trail (marked by red arrows) and one of 1km (marked by green arrows).
Wimbleball Lake
Nestled within the rolling hills of Exmoor National Park, there are plenty of ways to get active at Wimbleball – from walking to paddleboarding.
West Somerset Railway
20 miles of heritage railway through stunning Somerset countryside and coast, starting at Bishops Lydeard (TA4 3RU) with seven stops before arriving in Minehead. There are regular special events, see website for details.
Exmoor National Park
A unique landscape of moorland, woodland, valleys and farmland, shaped by people and nature over thousands of years. Where high cliffs plunge into the Bristol Channel, and cosy pubs and tearooms offer delicious local produce. There are so many picturesque places to visit and explore on Exmoor, but Tarr Steps is a personal favourite.
North Coast
We are less than one hour from the coast. Some highlights on the North coast include Minehead – the gateway to Exmoor with beaches to explore, a fishing quarter and an historic harbour. To the east of Minehead is Dunster Beach which is great for dog walks all year. Further east is Kilve with its spectacular rock formation and fossils, great for rock pooling. Heading west into Devon is Valley of the Rocks, it is well known for its feral goats that roam freely and often quite hair-raisingly on the jagged cliff edges.
South Coast
To the south you have the start of the Jurassic coast at Exmouth with its two miles of sandy beaches. To the east of Exmouth is the Regency town of Sidmouth and further east just into Dorset is Lyme Regis, with its famous harbour – The Cobb.
